Just like the vintage Tamiya Avante 4WD buggy, the new version is a very serious racing machine which some of the best parts for racing made on earth!  This is what some of the best racers used back in the late 80s when it was originally released!  This model was originally released in 1988 and at that time it was their first successful attempt to create a faster buggy version than their previous "Hotshot" model.  To accomplish this, Tamiya had to use the absolutely best materials possible!  Torque and speed requires a sturdy chassis, however weight reduces acceleration.  To accomplish this feat, this 4WD buggy used FRP (a strong fiberglass) which was vastly superior to plastic and metal in strength-to-weight ratio!  Although ABS plastic is tough and lightweight, FRP fiberglass is vastly better!

Today, we have even greater materials available, such as "Carbon Fiber", so in the new, re-released Tamiya Avante version, instead of plastic or FRP the new models use carbon fiber!  Carbon fiber material is one of strongest strength to weight ratio materials available earth today!  The Avante buggy also has that winning Tamiya longitudinal motor and battery position, with a shaft driven 4wd drivetrain, an excellent designed suspension and highly aerodynamic polycarbonate body!
