Hobby Grade Vs. Toy Grade RC Cars
What's the Difference Between Hobby and Toy Grade?:
Unsure of which version (hobby or toy grade) rc car to choose? There are substantial differences between
hobby grade and toy grade, but basically hobby grade are the more expensive, high performance versions with
better parts, are able reach much higher speeds and have more power. Due to their cost and speed,
they are preferred choice for older kids, teenagers, and adults getting into the hobby, because they are
more of a hobby model and less kiddie/toy-like. If purchasing for a child under the age of 12, then a
cheaper "toy grade" version is most likely fine. Many of the better toy grade versions can reach speeds
up to 15 miles per hour, whereas the hobby grade versions (depending on the model) can reach speeds up to 70mph (in
some cases even higher)! If you have a teenager or adult getting into the hobby, or an older child that plans
on contest racing, hobby grade is a must have. The nice thing about hobby grade, is you can start at one level and
upgrade and/or modify them to go even faster in the future. Another perk of hobby grade is their parts are easily
replaced and available in the event a part is broken. Most hobby grade versions even come with the tools in case
you need to replace or upgrade their parts, which means they're a great learning tool for older kids, teenagers,
and adults.

More Toy and Hobby Grade Tidbits:
Toy-grade - These RC Cars & Trucks are more affordable and in the
$20.00 - $99.00 price range, and are the best choice for younger children under the age of 12. These
vehicles are fully assembled and are slower (generally in the 5 - 15mph range) and meant more as a toy.
Hobby-grade - These RC Cars & Trucks are a large step up from the
toy-grade in performance with prices in the $100-$500 range. Hobby grade is best
suited for older kids (ages 12 and over is recommended), teenagers, and also very popular with
adults. Similar to video games, you would be surprised how many adults are into the hobby or RC Car
racing and contesting! These are the higher quality rc cars that are often used for professional
and contest racing, jumping, off road/crawling, drifting, and another other forms of contesting.
Generally, even the slowest Hobby grade RC vehicle will outperform the "best" of toy-grade variety!
These models generally reach speeds in the 20mph - 70mph range (depending on model you choose) and they do come in
both "kit" and "fully-assembled" versions right out of the box. They invite more innovation and are more of
hobby, because the parts, tires, motors, and even gears can both be replaced and often upgraded, which helps
with learning more about the mechanics of the vehicles.
